What is Perfect Pairs in blackjack?
Perfect Pairs is a blackjack side bet that pays when your first two cards form a pair. There are three tiers of pair with different payout rates depending on how closely the cards match.
The three pair types
A mixed pair (two cards of the same rank but different suit colors) pays the lowest, typically 5:1 or 6:1. A colored pair (same rank and same color but different suits, like the queen of hearts and queen of diamonds) pays in the middle range, around 12:1. A perfect pair (identical rank and identical suit) pays the highest, often 25:1 or 30:1. The exact payouts vary by casino and software provider.
The house edge
Perfect Pairs carries a much higher house edge than the main blackjack game — often between 4% and 8% depending on the payout table and the number of decks in use. Fewer decks increase the probability of hitting pairs, which is why the payout rates and house edge differ across games. It’s a high-cost side bet compared to the main blackjack game.
