What is Lightning Roulette?
Lightning Roulette is a live roulette variant from Evolution Gaming that adds random multipliers to straight-up bets each round. Between 1 and 5 numbers are ‘struck by lightning’ before each spin and assigned multipliers of 50x, 100x, 200x, 300x, 400x, or 500x.
How multipliers work
Before each spin, the RNG selects 1-5 numbers and assigns a multiplier to each. If you have a straight-up bet on a lightning number and it wins, your payout is the multiplier rather than the standard 35:1. If a non-lightning number wins, straight-up bets pay 30:1 (reduced from the standard 35:1 to fund the multiplier mechanic).
The trade-off
The reduced base payout on straight-up bets (30:1 instead of 35:1) increases the house edge on those bets compared to standard roulette. The multipliers offset this with occasional big wins but the expected return per spin is similar to or slightly worse than standard European roulette.
