What is a casino pit?
A casino pit is the area inside a ring of table games where casino staff operate and supervise play. The tables are arranged in a roughly oval or rectangular configuration, with the pit in the center — dealers face outward, staff in the pit have visibility across all tables.
Who works in the pit
Pit bosses (or pit supervisors) manage the tables within the pit. They handle disputes, approve credits, observe for cheating or card counting, approve bet limit exceptions, and oversee dealer performance. Floor supervisors watch individual tables. Dealers operate the games facing players. In high-end casinos, the pit for high-limit games is often physically separated from the main floor with additional privacy.
Pit in online context
Online casinos don’t have a physical pit, but the concept of supervision and player monitoring is replicated digitally. Algorithm-based monitoring flags unusual patterns of play. Customer accounts are reviewed for bonus abuse, multi-accounting, or patterns that suggest card counting (in live dealer games). The pit’s function — oversight and compliance — happens at the software level rather than through physical staff in a room.
