What is a provably fair casino?
A provably fair casino uses cryptographic technology to let you independently verify that each game result was truly random and was not altered after the fact. The approach is most common in cryptocurrency casinos.
How the system works
Before a game round begins, the casino generates a server seed and shares a cryptographic hash of it with you. You provide a client seed. Both seeds are combined to produce the game outcome. After the round ends, the casino reveals the full server seed. You can then use any standard cryptographic tool to verify that the hash matches, confirming the result was determined before you played and was not changed.
Why it matters
Standard casino fairness relies on trust in the operator and confidence in third-party audit reports. Provably fair gaming lets you verify individual results yourself, removing the need to take anyone’s word for it. The fact that verification is possible also acts as a deterrent against manipulation, since any rigged outcome could be proven.
Its limitations
The system only works if you actually perform the verification, which most players don’t. The tools are publicly available but require some technical comfort to use. Provably fair is most common at crypto casinos. Traditional licensed casinos use RNG certification from independent testing labs as their equivalent fairness guarantee.
