What are inside bets in roulette?
Inside bets in roulette are wagers placed on specific numbers or small groups of numbers within the number grid on the betting layout. They pay more than outside bets but win less often.
Types of inside bets
A straight-up bet is placed on a single number and pays 35:1. A split covers two adjacent numbers on the layout and pays 17:1. A street covers three numbers in a horizontal row and pays 11:1. A corner (or square) bet covers four numbers sharing a corner on the layout and pays 8:1. A line bet covers two adjacent rows of three numbers (six numbers total) and pays 5:1. A trio in European roulette covers 0, 1, and 2, or 0, 2, and 3, and pays 11:1.
Risk and reward
Inside bets offer higher payouts because they cover fewer numbers. A straight-up win at 35:1 is the biggest single-spin payout available in standard roulette. The trade-off is that most spins won’t land on your specific number. Many roulette players combine inside and outside bets to balance coverage and payout potential across a session.
