What is Punto Banco?
Punto Banco is the most common form of baccarat worldwide. ‘Punto’ means Player and ‘Banco’ means Banker in Spanish and Italian. The term is used interchangeably with baccarat in many European countries, particularly in the UK and across Latin America.
How it differs from other baccarat variants
There are several baccarat variants where players or bankers can have some say in how hands are played — Chemin de Fer lets a player act as the Banker and make drawing decisions. In Punto Banco, all drawing decisions are automatic and governed by fixed rules. No skill or decision is involved after placing your bet. This makes Punto Banco a purely chance-based game.
Punto Banco vs EZ Baccarat
EZ Baccarat (also called Commission-Free Baccarat) eliminates the 5% Banker commission. Instead, winning Banker hands that consist of three cards totaling 7 push rather than pay. This rule adjustment compensates for removing the commission while keeping the house edge roughly equivalent to the commission version.
